Van de Ven Double Ends The Toffees' Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

The Tottenham defender found the net twice as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven pounced on two occasions from corners in the opening 45 minutes to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - set up by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - headed home a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the tally five minutes after Van de Ven's opener, directing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

Beto, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's side into third place in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton remain 14th and are six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring weekday performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on target, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to influence the game before being replaced for Richarlison after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back Van de Ven transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the face of goal for an free the defender to score.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - added his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defensive duties, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the pair dealt excellently with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a major worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had scored just a single goal between them before the weekend's match.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he chose to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.
